History of the Society
The Trail Historical Society was
organized in 1953 when a small group of local
history buffs met at Elsie Turnbull's home to
discuss ways and means to protect and preserve
our community's history. There was a concensus
that there was interest in the City's history
and a society was formed as a branch of the BC
Historical Association (now the BC Historical
Federation). In 1978, their name was changed to
the Trail Historical Society.
Initially, the group collected historical
photos and artifacts and made plans to establish
a museum. Unfortunately, the museum did not become
a reality until 1977. However, the nucleus of
our current organization was formed and the Society
has made great strides over the past 20 years
to realize our founder's vision.
The Trail Historical Society's mandate
is to collect, preserve and make available to
the public articles, photos, documents, film,
and published materials relating to the history
and development of the City of Trail. To accomplish
this the Society operates three facilities:

The Society has offices on the second
floor of City Hall and may be contacted in person

Meetings
The members of the Society meet
the 2nd Tuesday of each month, except July and
August, at 1:30 pm in City Hall.
The Annual General Meeting is held
in March. The current Executive consists of:
- Jamie Forbes, President
- Nola Landucci, 1st Vice-President
- Louis Forte, 2nd Vice-President
- Lorna Nutini, Treasurer
- Sandy Hart, Secretary
Directors include: Jean Stainton,
Doreen Downie, Buddy Devito and Rose Calderon.
Membership
We welcome anyone interested in
our City's history or in supporting the Society's
work to become a member. A membership
form is available on this website and can
be forwarded to the Society at above address.
Membership fees are as follows:
- Regular: $12.00
- Family: $20.00
- Corporate: $30.00
For an additional $12.00 you may
obtain a one year's subscription to the BC Historical
News at a saving of $4.00 off the regular price.
This high quality journal contains a variety of
articles on BC's history and is a must have for
students of our Province's history. It is published
quarterly.
In addition to operating the three
facilities, in order to meet its mandate, the
Society has recently published three books on
Trail history, produced two videos, and reproduced
eight of Dr. Fanderlik's historic paintings as
art and greeting cards. Visit
